Biography

Randy was born and raised in Dallas, Texas, USA. Since childhood, he has been constantly surrounded by music. His experiences in music performance were primarily based in wind instruments, as he studied the saxophone and the bassoon from grade school through higher education. In 2001, Randy earned a Bachelor of Music degree from The University of North Texas College of Music where he studied bassoon under Professor Kathleen Reynolds. As a bassoonist, he performed in north Texas area chamber and orchestra ensembles in a professional capacity from 1998 to 2002. In 2004, he relocated to Los Angeles, California to pursue work in the music industry which unpredictably and ultimately lead him to his true calling. In February of 2006, Randy began his life with the theremin. From 2006 to 2008, Randy dedicated himself to an intensive self-study of theremin playing technique and performance. He devised an original theremin playing method that continues to evolve, pushing the instrument's potential to unexplored reaches.

Most notably, in the past two years, Randy has made significant contributions to the growing world-wide awareness of the theremin via memorable music video productions on the video sharing site, Youtube.com. Collectively, his theremin videos have been viewed over 7 million times.

 

Performance

April 2008, performed and led workshop/discussions at the 2008 Ether Music Festival, International Theremin Festival sponsored by Moog Music. Asheville, North Carolina.

March 2008, performance and workshop as guest artist for Ableton Live User Group-Los Angeles, SAE Institute, Hollywood, California.

January 2008, performances at the Moog Music booth, 2008 Winter NAMM Show, Anaheim, California.
